One of the really interesting places we went was the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary near Ubud. Why is it sacred? Well…..everything on Bali has some sort of "sacred" angle. There are spirits everywhere and the Balinese people are very serious about keeping them happy. Every family compound, place of business, bridge, intersection, big tree, big rock, etc. has a shrine where little offerings are left. Anyway, the monkeys are long tailed macacs (I just know I misspelled that) and are completely used to humans.
There are tons of hawkers right outside the gates selling bananas and nuts so tourists can feed the monkeys.
