Well, most of my family made it up here to Chicagoland yesterday. Tired but safe. They had evacuated to Shreveport to ride out the storm. When it became apparent that they wouldn't be going home soon, I had them come stay with me in Evanston. Unfortunately, my brother-in-law is the executive chef at a hotel in New Orleans and, as of last night has been unable to leave the city. Amazingly, some pay phones are operable and he has been able to call out occasionally. Supposedly, he is going to be able to leave today. You prayers are deeply appreciated.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contacted me over the last 48 hours with generous offers of assistance. We have been deeply moved by the amazing generosity of everyone, including offers of clothes, toys, food, etc.
I did want to spread the word on one particular topic that would be of interest to evacuees who are dying to find out about their homes. NOAA has made a few satellite passes over the gulf coast in the last couple of days and the (highly detailed) photos are available here. Its a little tough to navigate, but that's because of the sheer volume of photos (which is a good thing).
