What else is there to do in Wisconsin during the winter?  I wonder if the problem is seasonal?

Scuba Endurance Attempt

Rich Henry (picture here), a Kenosha, Wisconsin dive instructor, will attempt to break Jerry Hall's underwater scuba endurance record this summer.  He's targeting 7 days (at 15 feet) in Lake Andrea in Wisconsin and will have a team of support divers helping him out.

The effort will benefit the Wisconsin Make-a-Wish Foundation and the Kenosha volunteer dive rescue team and it looks like they are building a whole week of festivities around it called Wish Dive Week (see the end of this article).  That's nice.

Cool, looks like he'll have some toys to play with.  I only have one question.....why freeze your tookus off in a Wisconsin lake?  There are many warmer options.

Oriskany Sinking Delayed

Well, it looks like we'll have to wait even longer to dive this aircraft carrier.

The USS Oriskany, which was scheduled to be sunk off Pensacola this year, will be towed back to the Navy's "ship morgue" in Beaumont, Texas to ride out the hurricane season.  The ship has been cleaned of all pollutants, but the sinking has been delayed because of the requirement that our government paper their butts (and enrich some well connected consulting firm) with "studies".  Now they're saying it may not be sunk until 2007.

JUST SINK IT.  Bikini costs too damn much!

Haigh Quarry Fatality

FYI for Chicago divers: Last Saturday, Robert Kusler of Chicago Heights died while diving at Haigh Quarry.  There is a short article here about the accident.  I have no additional information.  My condolences go out to his family and friends.

I won't be commenting further on this, as I don't feel that idle speculation and rumor mongering adds any value.

Boston Blogging

Blogging has been light lately because my work travel is in high gear in the spring.  Boston today, New York (again) tomorrow.  Got a chance yesterday to take a walk along the Freedom Trail and the Boston Common/Public Garden.  The temps seemed to fluctuate minute-by-minute, depending on whether the sun was peeking out from behind the clouds.
