So "if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?" If a blogger blogs?.......hello?
I thought I'd give this blogging thing a try. However, since the fields of constitutional law, political science, military tactics, technology, economics and general gossip are overblogged, I'll try blogging primarily about my favorite pastime, scuba diving. There will also be unfocused ramblings on a number of other topics. Why diving? I have chosen to take the advice of Jeff Jarvis, Glenn Reynolds and Hugh Hewitt. Its my niche and few others are blogging on this topic regularly.
So who am I?....Just a geek with a passion for diving.
What gives me the right to be The Diveblogger?....10 years of diving, recreational dive instructor and trimix diver. But that really doesn't matter. What matters is that I will try to share my love for this sport with the blogosphere.
Are there people more qualified than I to do this? Absolutely! My primary occupation is unrelated to diving. But they aren't blogging yet and have largely abandoned the newsgroups and discussion boards to the uninformed and flame jockeys. Hopefully, this will inspire some of the thought leaders in the diving industry to take up diveblogging. The more, the merrier. Its supposed to be a discussion, not a lecture.
I have no lofty goals, but hope to provide (and link to) solid, accurate information on diving and underwater related topics. Hopefully there will be enough depth and breadth to keep both the novice and experienced diver interested. I will also try to liveblog and photoblog my occasional dive trips. Who sells waterproof laptop housings? I see a growing number of resorts with WiFi capabilities.
I'll start off with the comments section enabled, but if the newsgroup flame wars migrate to this site, I'll shut them down......so be nice.
Welcome!
